Approach

As human beings, all of us struggle in different ways, with different challenges, at times in our lives. This can often mean we experience distress that impacts our relationships, hobbies, jobs, study and other areas of our lives. This can leave us feeling anxious, fearful, trapped, hopeless and shameful, as well as a range of other emotions that results in us coping in unhelpful ways or ‘missing out’ on life. Though we all try to cope with stress the best we can, we – understandably – might need more specialised support at points.

I think the key to successful therapy is a warm, compassionate and collaborative alliance and I work with people to understand their difficulties, strengths and goals. I strive to tailor therapy with people to achieve their goals so that they can do more of what is important to them in life.

Experience

I am a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Practitioner Psychologist. I obtained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Leeds and have over 8 years’ experience working with people experiencing mental health difficulties, in a variety of settings (including the community, outpatient and inpatient settings) and across age groups, both in the NHS & private sector. As well as delivering individual therapy, I have facilitated a number of groups aimed at helping people develop mindfulness, emotion regulation and interpersonal skills, as well as managing problematic substance use.

Alongside working for HelloSelf I am employed in the NHS and, together with individual therapy and group work, I provide Consultation to other health professionals, as well as teaching and training – both to staff and trainee Psychologists on the local Doctorate training course.

I have worked with different mental health presentations, including; anxiety, panic, low mood/depression, self-harm, suicidality, relational problems, obsessions & compulsions, eating problems, substance use, psychosis and low self-esteem. I use a range of therapeutic interventions, mainly drawn from Cognitive & Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) & Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I aim to empower people I am working with so that when they leave therapy they are able to take the skills forward to a range of situations.

Specialist interests and additional qualifications

  • Post-doctoral training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Special interest in working with people who are experiencing voices, visions or thoughts that others may not share
